Constitution College Diabetes Network Chapter of Michigan State University
Article I – Name The name of this organization shall be known as theCollege Diabetes Network Chapter of Michigan State University, hereafter referred to as “CDN at MSU.”
Article II – Mission and Objectives Section 1: Mission Statement Our Chapter of the College Diabetes Network was founded for the purpose of connecting college students with and affected by Juvenile Diabetes in the hopes that these connections will create a support network which will enablestudents to fulfill their potential and limit the negative psychological and physical effects of Diabetes. Section 2: Objectives Create connections with other students with diabetes at the college/university. Create connections with the community to inspire children and young adults in the area. Educate the campus and community about diabetes and living a healthy lifestyle. Work to improve life on campus for diabetics through emotional support, personal connections, healthcare, and nutrition. Create a central resource for prospective students and parents to have access to information regarding support services to diabetics at prospective colleges and universities. Provide a central resource where parents of college students can connect and share personal stories, tips, etc. in order to help to relieve the strain on them and their relationship with their college age child. Provide resources to college and university administrators to help them better serve the diabetic population at their schools.
Article III – Membership Membership is open to people interested in improving their own health, supporting a friend/loved one with diabetes, increasing awareness, and making life on campus healthier and less complicated for students. The organization will not discriminate on the basis of age, color, gender, gender identity, disability status, height, marital status, national origin, political persuasion, race, religion, sexual orientation, veteran status, or weight. Also, only MSU students may be officers and/or voting members.
Article IV – Dues and Requirements Section 1: National Dues National dues shall be set by the national College Diabetes Network organization. Section 2: Local Dues CDN at MSU requires members to pay yearly dues of $25. The dues of this association shall be payable by December 31 of each year. After this date due-paying members will be formally recognized. Section 2: Requirements A person remains in good standing with the local chapter by attending at least two meetings a semester and paying yearly dues of $25. The fiscal year of the organization shall be from August 1st to July 31st.
Article V – Organization The governing body of College Diabetes Network Chapter of Michigan State University is the Executive Board. Executive Board shall be comprised of the following positions: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. The Executive Board has the authority to appoint members to other designated offices to fulfill the work of the chapter as needed.

Article I – Duties and Powers of the Executive Board Section 1: The President Shall be the Chief Executive Officer of the group. Shall appoint all committee chairpersons. With approval of the Executive Board, directs the budget. Vacancies in offices will be filled by appointment of the President. Section 2: The Vice President Shall be the parliamentarian for the organization. Shall assume the duties of the president should the office become vacant, or in the absence of the President. Keep and have available current copies of the constitution. Will perform other duties as directed by the President. Section 3: The Secretary Shall be responsible for keeping the minutes of all meetings and the meetings of the executive board. Will provide a copy of the minutes for each officer and keep a master file. Shall maintain a complete and accurate account of attendance and membership status. Will perform other duties as directed by the President and Vice President. Section 4: Treasurer Shall keep a current record of all financial transactions. Shall develop quarterly reports containing a list of all receipts and disbursements and distribute them among the membership. Will be responsible for checking the accuracy of all bills and invoices and paying them correctly and on time. Will perform other duties as directed by the President and Vice President. Section 5: Event Coordinator Responsible for scheduling programs for the club. Will perform other duties as directed by the President and Vice President. Section 6: Public Relations Responsible for using social media and creating a presence on the web. Will perform other duties as directed by the President and Vice President.
Article II – Term of Office Section 1: The President Once elected, they will serve, until they step down, from May 1st to April 30th. They also must be an officer for one year before assuming the president position. Section 2: The Vice President Once elected, they will serve, until they step down, from May 1st to April 30th. Section 3: The Secretary They will serve from May 1st to April 30th. They will be elected every year. Section 4: The Treasurer They will serve from May 1st to April 30th. They will be elected every year. Section 5: Event Coordinator They will serve from May 1st to April 30th. They will be elected every year. Section 6: Public Relations They will serve from May 1st to April 30th. They will be elected every year.
Article III – Elections Elections for vacant offices will be held in April. Elected positions include: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Candidates for office must announce their intent to run one week prior to the election. Candidates for all offices must be students in good standing and current members of CDN at MSU. Officers may hold no more than one elected chapter position during the term of office. Officer positions will be granted by interviews conducted by the previous executive board members. The executive board looks for active and involved members in the club as the correct candidates for these positions. Eligible candidates are all ACTIVE members of CDN at MSU that have filled out the online application in April to interview.
Article IV – Unexpired Terms In the event of a vacancy, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer, etc. in that order, will succeed the President for the remainder of the unexpired term. The resulting Executive Board vacancy shall be appointed by the new President, with majority approval by the Executive Board. All other office and committee vacancies will be filled by appointment by the President with majority approval of the Executive Board. All replacement appointments will end at the conclusion of the unexpired term.
Article V – Removal of an Officer Any officer may be removed from the membership by a three-fourths vote of the Executive Board. Any officer removed may appeal to the general membership. Said officer shall be considered reinstated with two-thirds approval of the members.
Article VI – Amendments Amendments to the Constitution will be added as needed. Once the proposed amendment is introduced there shall be a one month lay over period before any voting occurs. When an amendment is voted on, it must be at least 50% +1 of the majority vote and will be submitted to the Secretary of the Registry of Student Organizations.
Article VII – Meetings There will be an average of two meetings per month, pending on member’s schedules, and time availability. The meeting schedule will be determined late August or early September for the year.
